These applications should propose single or mixed methods studies that break new ground, extend previous discoveries in new directions or develop preliminary data in preparation for larger studies. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites Small Research Grant (R03) applications to study the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of human genome research. These applications should be for small, self-contained research projects, such as those that involve single investigators. Of particular interest are projects that propose normative or conceptual analyses, including focused legal, economic, philosophical, anthropological, or historical analyses of new or emerging issues.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites Research Project Grant (R01) applications that propose to study the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of human genome research. Applications may propose studies using either single or mixed methods. Proposed approaches may include but are not limited to data-generating qualitative and quantitative approaches, legal, economic and normative analyses, and other types of analytical and conceptual research methodologies, such as those involving the direct engagement of stakeholders.

Precision Medicine and Society Pilot Grant Program

Pilot grant awards for Columbia faculty, post-docs, and graduate students are available from the Precision Medicine and Society Program (part of Columbia’s Precision Medicine Initiative). The awards are designed to support work on issues relating to the social, legal, economic, humanistic and ethical impact on society of the introduction of precision medicine and new genomic technologies.

Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award Individual Predoctoral Fellowship to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (F31)

The purpose of this Kirschstein-NRSA predoctoral fellowship (F31) award is to enhance the diversity of the health-related research workforce by supporting the research training of predoctoral students from population groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, or clinical research workforce, including underrepresented racial and ethnic groups and those with disabilities.

Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program

The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable junior faculty members to carry out innovative bioethics research. Each year about three Greenwall Faculty Scholars are selected to receive 50 percent salary support for three years to enable them to develop their research program. Only two applications are allowed per university; contact the Office of Research Initiatives for internal submission guidelines.
