Research
Corinne Kirchner is Lecturer at Columbia University (Sociomedical Sciences, Mailman School of Public Health) and is active in Columbia's Sociology Department, pursuing her "re-wirement" interest in Sociology of Language. She recently organized the Language & Culture research network in the Culture Section of the American Sociological Association, and is active in the Language & Society Research Committee of the International Sociological Association. Her research interests concern dictionaries, the profession of lexicography, and the broader social processes of "defining," currently focusing on nontraditional online dictionaries and "net-lingo." Formerly, she was Director of Policy Research at the American Foundation for the Blind, with publications and varied national roles in Disability Studies. Her doctorate in Sociology is from Columbia.
