Research

TeitlerJulien Teitler is Associate Professor of Social Work and Sociology at Columbia University and Director of the Social Indicators Survey Center. Teitler received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently was a visiting scholar at the Institut Nationale d'Etudes Demographiques in Paris and a post-doctoral fellow at the Princeton's Office of Population Research. He joined the Columbia faculty in 2000. Teitler's areas of specialization are family demography, social inequality and research methods. He studies how family structure and family relationships interact with school and neighborhood environments to affect youth, particularly youth health and health related behaviors. His most recent publications have focused on the effects of school and neighborhood on adolescents, the effects of father involvement on infant health, the determinants of youth sexual and fertility behavior, and survey research methodology.
