Unemployment Insurance Schemes in Developing Countries

This proposed research project will study the most efficient form of unemployment support using a large data set on the employment history of over 400,000 workers. This employment data will be combined with expenditure and unemployment compensation data for the study. The researchers will categorize different types of unemployment compensation (unemployment insurance, lump sum payments, and no insurance) and use sophisticated methods to analyze how the type of unemployment compensation unemployed workers receive affects affect their consumption over time.

A Study Into the Effect of Employment Conditions Upon Judicial Behavior and Performance

In common-law jurisdictions, appellate judges construct legal rules over time by building on previous decisions, using the facts, reasoning, and outcomes described by previous judges to guide their rulings. In this scheme, high-quality appellate decision-making has beneficial spillovers by helping future judges make good decisions. As with all public officials, the performance of appellate judges will depend in part on their conditions of employment.

William T. Grant Research Grants

This grants program supports theory-building and empirical research projects on reducing inequality or improving the use of research evidence. Primary research questions must focus on children or youth within the 5 to 25 age range and should focus on academic, behavioral, social, and economic youth outcomes.
