Economic Institutions, Behavior, & Performance

Projects in this sub-program study households and individuals, specifically the role of “choice architecture” on their economic decision-making. Research topics include:risk-taking and insurance markets; time inconsistencies and the annuity paradox; cognitive biases; behavioral applications to policy; experimental testing of nudges or other regulatory interventions; behavioral welfare economics; obfuscated markets; consumer finance; probabilities and perceptions of extreme events; behavioral foundations and heterogeneous agents in macroeconomics; etc.

Finance Research Grants

The mission of the FINRA Investor Education Foundation is to provide underserved Americans with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary for financial success throughout life. The FINRA Foundation envisions a society characterized by universal financial literacy.

Financial Services for the Poor Initiative

The Financial Inclusion Program at Innovations for Poverty Action invites Expressions of Interest from teams of researchers and financial service providers to conduct rigorous research on financial product innovations for low-income households in developing countries.

Economics Program

The Economics program supports research designed to improve the understanding of the processes and institutions of the U.S. economy and of the world system of which it is a part. This program also strengthens both empirical and theoretical economic analysis as well as the methods for rigorous research on economic behavior. It supports research in almost every area of economics.
