Leveraging Population-based Cancer Registry Data to Study Health Disparities Research Grant (R01)

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to efficiently use the existing cancer registry infrastructure by augmenting data already collected with additional information needed to understand health disparities among people diagnosed with cancer. Specifically, this FOA will support the study of factors influencing observed health disparities within the framework of population-based cancer registries by the inclusion of data not routinely collected by or linked to the registries.

The goal of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to efficiently use the existing cancer registry infrastructure by augmenting data already collected with additional information needed to understand health disparities among people diagnosed with cancer. Specifically, this FOA will support the study of factors influencing observed health disparities within the framework of population-based cancer registries by the inclusion of data not routinely collected by or linked to the registries. The studies should be hypothesis-driven and multidisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

The NIH Director's Transformative Research Award complements NIH’s traditional, investigator-initiated grant programs by supporting individual scientists or groups of scientists proposing groundbreaking, exceptionally innovative, original and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish entirely new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. Little or no preliminary data are expected. Projects must clearly demonstrate the potential to produce a major impact in a broad area of biomedical or behavioral research.

Research and Evaluation in Safety, Health, and Wellness in the Criminal Justice System

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is seeking applications for funding for research in three areas: (1) the impact of acute and chronic stress on (a) law enforcement and corrections officers and (b) individuals in violent communities; (2) the impact of parental incarceration on children; and (3) the efficacy of services, strategies, policies, and processes within the criminal or juvenile justice system that serve as responses to children exposed to violence.

Health Economics Research Funding

To stimulate innovative research that will deepen our understanding of health and health care markets and how they relate to the overall economy, the Becker Friedman Institute's health economics research initiative awards funding to emerging scholars each year.

Fellows awarded this funding will conduct and collaborate in research on the economics of health and health care and interact with a large network of other economics scholars at the institute and throughout the University of Chicago.
