The National Bureau for Economic Research (NBER), a private, non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to conducting and disseminating economic research, seeks applications for research projects that deepen our understanding of the mechanisms explaining geographic variation in the relationship between income and life expectancy in the United States, by using recently released statistics from the Health Inequality Project.

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) encourages applications to conduct research on the effects of public policies on health-related behaviors and outcomes associated with alcohol, marijuana, and other substances. The purpose of the FOA is to advance understanding of how public policy may serve as a tool for improving public health and welfare through its effects on behaviors and outcomes pertaining to alcohol and other drugs. This FOA is intended to support innovative research to examine policy effects that have the potential to lead to meaningful changes in public health.

This year, Policies for Action is issuing a call for proposals to investigate the effectiveness of state, county, and city public policies aimed at increasing housing affordability and stability, addressing racial segregation and isolation from opportunity, and increasing access to opportunity-rich neighborhoods and place-based resources.
