Carolina Ferrerosa-Young

PhD Candidate, Undergraduate Adviser



Carolina Ferrerosa Young, MA, MPhil, is a fourth year PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science at Columbia University. She studies American politics with a minor in Quantitative Methods. She is currently pursuing research projects related to representational inequality, elite political behavior, and experimental methods. Within the Department of Political Science, Carolina serves as the graduate coordinator for the American Politics Workshop and as the Undergraduate Advisor for majors. For the broader Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Carolina serves as the Finance Chair for the Graduate Student Advisory Council. She is a Columbia University Dean's Fellow, an American Political Science Association Minority Fellow, and a recipient of the 2012 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

Originally from Arlington, Virginia, Carolina graduated from the University of Virginia's Distinguished Majors Program in Politics. Before graduate school, she worked at Mathematical Policy Research and MDRC, helping to run randomized controlled trials of federal social programs for the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In her spare time, she has volunteered with the Cambridge Community Services Immigrant Youth Program, New York Cares, Reading Partners in NYC, the Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, and with various political campaigns.

From September 2016 to August 2017, she will be a Visiting Scholar at the American Political Science Association's Centennial Center in Washington, DC.
