Columbia and Barnard affiliates and community members are invited to attend "Mapping AI: Hype," on Wednesday, Feb 4, from 5-7 pm in Fayerweather 513. "Hype" is the first of several critical workshops addressing AI not only at the university but also in the world more broadly. As AI becomes more present in more facets of daily life, becoming conversant about AI and its implications is more crucial than ever.
"Hype" is primer on AI. What is AI, anyway? What does "generative" mean? Is AI sentient? What kinds of AI are there? And where might we find it across Columbia and Barnard? Experts will help us understand what AI is and isn't and unpack the hype around it. Following presentations and a Q&A, audience members are invited to start drafting a map that locates AI usage on campus.
All are welcome, non-technical and technical folks alike. Please register in advance here and share with your campus networks.
This event is hosted by the Center for Science and Society and sponsored by ISERP.
